As February creeps upon us and temperatures are still low, are your gardens ready for the weather that it will bring?
In the second month of our New Year, your garden should start to show signs of new life! A few more snow-drops should be appearing along with some daffodils. As the weather becomes slightly milder we should see wild primrose and pansies for a colourful impact in dull months.
February is a good month to start thinking of cutting back hedges and mature shrubbery before other areas of your garden need more attention. A small trim, regularly can make all the difference when it comes to the appearance of your garden.
As the weather improves and temperatures rise, you can start the weekend visits to local garden centres and fill those trolleys with your hardy annual plants, Crocus and Aubretia are highly recommendable, shrubs and even rose plants, it’s time to prepare your borders and flower beds for planting!!
Summer flowering bulbs such as Allium and Bearded Iris or vegetable seedling should be bought or ordered now in preparation for planting in a month or 2, keep them in planters or trays in greenhouses for the time being and wait for the sun to get to work!!
With Valentine’s day round the corner why not show your garden some love…..
